Foraging is the processes of searching for and finding food and is a natural way to expend energy and to entertain your companion bird. Because food is made directly available to your bird every day, the act of foraging by the bird rarely occurs; so an activity that normally would keep a bird occupied for several hours is reduced to several minutes a day. If foraging is not encouraged birds will have many hours a day with nothing to do which often leads to boredom. Behavioral problems like feather picking may result which affects the birds physical and emotional health.

 

By placing a small amount of food mixed with salt-free pistachio shells in your bird’s food bowl, this will safely and inexpensively promote foraging by allowing your bird to look for the food instead of just providing it. This will promote more physical exercise as your bird uses its beak and/or feet to remove what’s hiding in its food bowl!

Please keep in mind that once the shells have been removed and end up on the bottom of your bird’s cage, it is not sanitary to reuse them
