Can training my bird to do tricks make my parrot a better pet? Parrot training for bird tricks will be a much better pet. Bird training tricks are a great way to socialize your parrot and they help teach your parrot to look to you for cues on how you want him to behave. By using positive reinforcement and keeping bird training sessions fun, your parrot look for ways to please you to get attention. According to Irene Pepperberg's famous avian research, pet bird's have the intelligence of a 3 to 5 year old child. They require mental stimulation to remain emotionally healthy. Bird training tricks exercise your birds brain will make for a happy parrot. Plus, you and your parrot bond more closely!
Is bird training for tricks hard to do? Again, parrots are smart! Plus, being social creatures, they aim to please. By using positive bird training methods in which you reward the behavior you want to develop and ignore the behaviors you don't want, your bird training will go at a surprisingly quick pace. Even just five minute bird training sessions per day will provide you with amazing results!!
What bird training trick should I start with first? It really doesn't matter which trick you train your parrot first. To get started we suggest a Bird Training Stand, one of our bird training books or bird training DVD's that breaks each trick down into step-by-step detail, and a bird training prop of your choice. It is recommended that the first trick involve a parrot prop of some kind. The prop cues your parrot that you are expecting acertain behavior. Each of the props we offer are taught in both Clicker Training for Birds and The Parrot Training Handbook. We have used Clicker Training with Peachy and Smokey with absolutely terrific and fast results!
